Pho Saigon - Flemington

We've been trying to widen our pho-eating circle, trying to eat at different pho places instead of the ones we've tried and tested to be good. A new venture for us was at Pho Saigon in Flemington. Just before stepping into the restaurant, we bumped into a group of our friends who were just on their way out. They told us that they had a pretty satisfying lunch and particularly recommended the crispy skin chicken. Unfortunately, as we were creatures of habit, the normal pho was ordered, with an entree of spring rolls.

condiments
The spring rolls here had a relatively thicker pastry wrap. The filling was also less awesome tasting consisting mainly of finely mushed pork mince. The redeeming factor, however, was that it was crazily crunchy and deep-fried a perfect golden brown.

Hubby ordered his special beef noodle soup. There were plenty of slices of raw beef, beef tripe, beef tendon and beef balls. There was also plenty of onions to make the soup yummy and sweet. My pho was likewise rather yum. Loads of beef balls and silky smooth noodles and yummy soup. Mmm... I was starving and hence, smashed this.

It wasn't a bad meal overall. The pho here is quite yummy but... probably our usual hood in Flemington is preferred.

Ta Fong - Flemington

Hunting for a quick lunch in Flemington, we found ourselves eating none other than Pho. We entered Ta Fong, which is a Chinese and Vietnamese Restaurant as it seemed reasonably packed with people. It had quite an extensive menu... but out of the entire menu, I ordered my usual - beef ball and beef tripe noodle soup (as I really like it), and my hubby ordered the special beef noodle soup (as he panicked and didn't know what to order) LOL :)

Anyway, both phos came it. It was yummy :) The soup was sweeter than a lot of other broths but tasty and delicious anyway. The noodles were perfect and soaked up the soup well (whilst not being too soggy) and my beef ball and beef tripe were good! I think my hubby enjoyed his noodles too!

Not a bad Viet/Chinese place. Soup's sweeter than normal - but sweet suits me :)

Pho Toan Thang - Flemington

Living where we're living gives us good close access to cheap yummy pho in Flemington. We've been to a few places for pho but one of our favourite is Pho Toan Thang which is situated in the little covered corridor.

Pho Toan Thang

My favourite pho is what I always order from this place (beef ball pho) and on this occasion, my hubby ordered the beef special (with the lot - rare beef, beef ball, beef brisket, beef tripe, beef tendon). The pho here is quite yummy. The soup is clear and tasty and luckily not filled with MSG. The beef balls are sometimes cut thinner than half... but also sometimes cut in half (depends on your luck). The noodles are deliciousness and when you add your own mix of condiments in, it's the perfect lunch or snack :)

"beef special", and "beef ball pho"

Not a bad place - price is also very reasonable. Hence, we've been here multiple times :)

Hoang Gia - Flemington

Huong Gia

Deciding to opt for a fast and cheap meal, we decided to lunch on Pho at Flemington. Looking around for a busy Pho place, Hoang Gia was chosen.

My partner ordered the Vermicelli with grilled pork and spring rolls (Bun dac biet - $8.50). This bowl of vermicelli was quite huge~ and topped with spoonfuls of fresh chopped chilli, I am inclined to think that my partner quite enjoyed his meal.

I was being boring and just ordered Pho. I wanted beef balls and beef tripe (and no raw beef). Last time I ordered it this way, they came out with cooked beef (not to my liking) and so I prepared for the worst. Luckily, the people at Hoang Gia got it right. The beef balls were nice and the tripe was soft and tender. So okay, the service was no where as quick as Pho An and the soup base here is not as potent or as herby, but hey, it was just a mere $8 for a giant bowl of pho~ No complaints from me.

Beef ball and beef tripe pho - $8

So after splurging $50 each the previous night at Tequila's for sub-optimal food, a grand total of $16.50 for good food was a pleasant and much welcomed change to my bank account!
